Rutgers Ink Deal With Jordan

Theres a new man in charge at Rutgers University, and his name is Eddie Jordan. Just two weeks after Rutgers University was in the nations spotlight due to video footage surfacing of former Mens basketball head coach Mike Rice. Rice was ridiculed and fired for using less than acceptable coaching tactics, which included physical and verbal abuse towards his players. The Rutgers program is clearly going through a rebuilding stage as they also loss their athletic director, Tim Pernetti; who landed Rutgers a huge opportunity in joining the BIG 10 conference in 2014, along with assistant coach Jimmy Martelli, who both resigned following the surfacing of these videos. Jordan, who was most recently an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers, has signed a five-year deal with the University. A deal that’ll pay him more than $1 million each year. However, Jordan is no stranger to Rutgers University, as he was once a player for the Scarlet Knights from 1973-1977. Jordan is the schools all-time leader in assists and steals. Eddie Jordan has yet to experience coaching on the college level but that may not hinder his success too much; as he has been a head coach in the NBA for Washington, Philadelphia and Sacramento. So the success of this program, or lack-thereof, will fall all on Eddie Jordan’s shoulders. Although, i’m sure at this point the University just wants to slip back out of the spotlight, forgetting about this national embarrassment and focus on improving a program that has struggled for years. Only time will tell what will be of the new Eddie Jordan era at Rutgers, but one thing is for sure; it can be any worse than Mike Rice’s stint with the program.
