After another regular season in the books, and as the playoffs get more intense by the day; the NBA decided upon who this years best coach was this past week. And the votes were in George Karl’s favor, as he received 62 first place votes, with Miami Heat’s coach Eric Spoelstra coming in second receiving only 24 first place votes. The Denver Nuggets coach received his first and only coach of the year award in his 25 year head coaching career. A fact which is hard to believe since, in my opinion, Karl is a league favorite and should be a sure thing for the HOF. Karl lead the Denver Nuggets to a 57-25 record, which was good enough to give the Nuggets the No. 3 seed and home court advantage over the No. 6 seeded Golden State Warriors, who ultimately bumped them from the playoffs in six games. However, overall Karl is one of the best coaches in the league today as he carries a career regular season record of 1,131-756. Karl was as classy as expected when accepting the award, thanking everyone in the organization and people who has had an positive influence on him and his coaching career. Although, the Nuggets were sent home early from the playoff picture; the Nuggets are expected to be a force to be reckoned with again next year. I wouldn’t be too surprised if we saw Karl’s name pop up in COY talks again next season.
